Tips & Advice from the professional personal trainers at OneLife training gym in Kelowna.
Summer is just around the corner, soon we’ll be hitting the beaches in our bathing suits. This time of year people really start to think about the fact that they’ll be wearing less and less clothing, and a lot of us begin to hit the gym in pursuit of that perfect beach body. At One Life we believe that fitness is about more than just aesthetics, it’s about overall health. Nutrition and exercise should combine to deliver not only physical results, but also to improve your mental focus and energy levels. The summer season doesn’t just bring with it a need for skimpier, climate appropriate clothing, it also brings more outdoor activities like hiking, biking beach volleyball, you name it! So not only do we want to improve our physical fitness to look good, we also want to have the energy for all the summer fun!
Here are some tips for shaking off winter and getting your best beach body this summer:
1. Commit to a routine
The best results will always come from commitment and hard work. However, you need to be realistic about your schedule and what’s going to work for you. If you’re just trying fit your workout in when you can, more often than not it will fall off the priority list and you’ll find yourself falling short of your goals. When fitness is part of your regular routine it becomes a lifestyle, and this will improve not only your physical results but also your overall health! Your work out shouldn’t be a chore or a hassle, it should be fun! Committing to a routine that works for you and your schedule will give you the consistency needed to get the results your looking for.
2. Change your diet
The cold winter often brings with it an array of not-so-healthy comfort foods. These combined with laziness and a natural desire to hibernate have left most of us with some pretty poor eating habits as we get into spring and summer. Nutrition plays a huge role achieving your fitness goals, the body needs fuel! So if you’re going to be pushing your physical limits, would you rather be running on sub-par regular or premium? We are incredibly fortunate to live in the Okanagan where we have access to amazing local produce, a weekly trip to the farmers market can get you stocked up on some great ingredients to improve your diet. If you need some help in this department we offer nutrition programs as part of our services to help you get your eating habits on track!
3. Work with a personal trainer
If you want to make the most out of your work out, a personal trainer will make all the difference. Our trainers share their expertise in exercise form and focus, and we will teach you how to correctly perform challenging exercises while coaching you through the rigor required to achieve visible, measurable results. Personal trainers use their knowledge to help you maximize your routine and get the most out of your time at the gym. A trainer helps keep you motivated and provides you with a variety of exercises so your routine doesn’t become boring or stagnant, because let’s face it if it’s boring you won’t want to keep doing it. Personal trainers can also provide you with guidance on how to get started and how to keep improving, so if you’re feeling intimidated or overwhelmed your trainer is there to help.
